Collograph Editions
Collograph prints, 3 editions, created for Intro to Printmaking, SP25
I wanted to take an idea of a bustling, multi-dimensional scene, something that’s always been special to me, and represent it through collograph. Because food has so many layers and textures, this works perfectly with the nature of the collograph process, and I chose a set tablescape of Italian food for this project because my friends at college always go to an Italian restaurant Katie’s Pasteria whenever we celebrate someone’s birthday. I started by using my sintra plate as the background for the print, and then, I cut each individual piece out on chipboard and covered each with vinyl to start with as a base layer and added gesso, polyacrylic, and acrylic mediums mixed with sand on top. I loved all the details in each individual plate, and I think the small nuances in the plates speak as a labor of love from the time it took to ink and print each plate that is so similar to the time and energy that it takes to craft a home-cooked meal.
